Cutty Sark - Webnet Balustrade Infill
British clipper the Cutty Sark was the fastest ship of its day, and now it’s the most stylish of its time, thanks to Jakob Webnet wire mesh!
MMA were delighted to supply 400sq meters of stainless steel Webnet in and around the Cutty Sark at its home in Greenwich, London. Installed to create discreet yet high quality balustrading, the Webnet is highly tensile and provides a safe environment for the ship’s visitors and staff.
Webnet reflects the ship’s majestic elegance due to its quality, durability, exceptional tensile strength, and ability to withstand the elements.
Built in 1869 and designed to carry tea from China to England as quickly as possible, through its teenage years the Cutty Sark was the most successful and fastest cargo ship and competed in the intensely competitive ‘tea race’ across the globe from China to London.
Webnet is weather-resistant and requires minimal maintenance, so it’s a shame that the Webnet wasn’t available during the ship’s operational days!
