The Wave, Bristol – Webnet Balustrade Infill

From the moment we received the initial inquiry, the whole MMA team was excited to be a part of ‘The Wave’, in Bristol.

After advising on materials, in August 2019 we supplied 417 sqm of our Jakob Webnet Stainless Steel wire mesh system, the material being used as balustrade infill for the 100 m viewing pier and 1,000 sqm clubhouse at this unique, inland surfing destination, which provides safe waves for surfers of all abilities.

The Jakob Webnet Wire Mesh system was specified for the project due to its outstanding performance, quality and durability, with the system’s anti-fall properties aligning perfectly with the architect’s design.

Webnet wire mesh is extremely durable, strong and weather-resistant. Manufactured from marine grade 316 stainless steel, it is the perfect solution for projects that require longevity and low-maintenance, combined with an elegant, modern aesthetic.

All in all, it was the perfect solution for the £25m Wave project.

The 1.5 mm Webnet system provides an unrestricted, yet completely safe view from both the clubhouse and pier, providing spectators with a unique opportunity to not only watch the surfers, but also to see at close quarters the incredible swell created from around 1,000 waves per hour.

Working in close collaboration with EFL Engineering & Fabrication Limited who installed the steel work and Webnet balustrade, the Wave was shortlisted for a RICS Social Impact Award 2020 in the leisure category, as well as being nominated for ICE South West Awards for “The People’s Choice,” the result of which will be announced in September 2020.
